Welcome to Gear Grinders 4 Wheel Drive Club!

Established in 1971 and located in Ridgecrest, California, we are a family oriented group of four-wheelers dedicated to promoting responsible off-road fun and protecting our natural resources. Our club takes pride in its support of Tread Lightly on Public lands. We are comprised of outgoing, fun loving, patriotic and responsible members who share the same love of off-roading and the outdoors. Guests are always welcome, so contact us if you will be in the area.  We’ll let you know where we are going and when.

Our members have experience on all kinds of trails. Below are the ratings you can encounter when traveling with us.

1-3 feature trails with obstacles that are easy to navigate. In optimum weather conditions, some of these trails may not require the continual use of four-wheel drive (4WD). Ideal for SUV's, beginners and site seeing. Guests are always welcome.
4-6 are moderately demanding trails on which 4WD is required. You may encounter a wide variety of challenges, including mud holes, boulders, and stream crossings, on the trail. Over sized tires are recommended. Guests are still encouraged to attend.
7-9 indicates that the likelihood of getting stuck is considerably higher. Mud holes here may be deep and rock climbing will be more demanding. We only recommend the more experienced drivers participate. The less the vehicle is equipped the more work you can expect. Vehicle damage can occur.
10 is reserved for trails like the Rubicon Trail, Dusy Ershim and Bronco Canyon. We only recommend the more experienced drivers participate. The less the vehicle is equipped the more work you can expect. Vehicle damage will occur. The club Board Of Directors reserves the right to disallow participation based on vehicle and driver readiness.
